Colorado Senate Seat

The race for the open Colorado Senate seat is beginning to take shape. Democrat Mark Udall, the five-term representative from CO 2nd District filed papers on April 17, 2007. He brings with him about $1.3 million from his 2006 House campaign that was not spent. This gives him an early lead in money without any primary challengers. Look for a lot of money coming in from outside the state as Democrats target this seat to expand their narrow Senate majority. For Republicans things are still open. The only things known are who is not going to run: Wayne, Scott McInnis, Bill Owens and John Elway. There is speculation that Bob Schaffer is probably going to get in and that John Suthers is considering running.

My personal favorite is Bob Schaffer. Mr. Schaffer did a supreme job representing Colorado’s 4th Congressional District from 1997-2003 when he kept his campaign promise and term limited himself. The former Congressman is a true conservative and will do a fine job as representing Colorado in the U.S. Senate. I hope Republicans don’t make the mistake of trying to nominate a moderate again hoping that will be more “electable” as they did in 2004. Lets get behind a good candidate like Bob Schaffer from the beginning and keep Colorado in the Red.
